About the Speaker

Dr. Karenne Hills maintains a ‘portfolio lifestyle’ with a number of professional interests in the fields of disability, tertiary education, counselling, and nursing. Along with her teaching responsibilities at Australian Institute for Professional Counsellors (AIPC) in Brisbane, Australia, Karenne operates a private counselling, health, and disability services practice. She provides professional development workshops and consults to local disability organisations. She is currently working on an innovative program designed to support students with specialized learning abilities to achieve success in post-school educational and employment opportunities. Karenne has recently completed her Ph.D., studying the Spirituality of People with Nonverbal Autism. She regularly speaks at local, national, and international conferences on various topics pertaining to people with disabilities, spirituality, and autism. Karenne holds a special interest in the theological and spiritual considerations for people living with disability, specifically autism, an interest born largely from her personal journey with her two sons. Karenne has published in several academic journals and books.
